Key Highlights:
- The Columbus Crew defeated the Los Angeles Galaxy 2–1 at Lower.com Field on Wednesday, April 22, in a rain-soaked midweek MLS contest.
- Columbus held 59% possession and put five shots on target, controlling the match for most of 90 minutes.
- The Crew’s two goals came before halftime concluded, providing a cushion that survived a late Galaxy strike in the 86th minute.
A steady downpour over Franklinton did not deter several thousand Crew supporters who packed Lower.com Field on Wednesday evening as Columbus defeated the Los Angeles Galaxy 2–1 in Major League Soccer regular season play. Diego Rossi and Daniel Gazdag each contributed to the Crew’s two-goal burst before the second half began. The result moves Columbus back into winning form after a road loss at New England last weekend.
Crew Seize Control Before the Break on Lower.com Field
Columbus struck first in the 40th minute, converting one of their five first-half scoring opportunities to go up 1–0. The Crew doubled their lead just two minutes into second-half stoppage time at the 47th minute, effectively taking the match out of LA’s reach before the Galaxy had time to reorganize. Columbus Crew match records show the side outshot Los Angeles 10–4 on the night, with five of those efforts reaching goalkeeper JT Marcinkowski.
The Galaxy were forced into an early lineup adjustment, with a substitution logged as early as the 22nd minute — the circumstances of which MLS has not detailed in post-match documentation. Los Angeles also absorbed a yellow card in the 45th minute and required three additional substitutions around the hour mark, per official match records.
“The guys responded well under difficult conditions tonight,” a Crew supporter near Section 118, just east of the south end seats, said after the final whistle. “Two goals before half, that’s how you handle a midweek game.”

Galaxy Pull One Back Late, But Crew Hold On Near the Scioto Riverfront
The Galaxy avoided a shutout in the 86th minute, cutting the Columbus lead to 2–1 and pushing a brief scare through the stadium that sits along the Scioto River just west of Downtown. Patrick Schulte, manning the Crew goal, was not credited with a save on the sequence per official match data, indicating the Galaxy converted on a ball that bypassed the Columbus defense rather than requiring a stop.
Columbus held firm over the final four minutes of regulation. The Crew’s defensive unit — anchored by Rudy Camacho and Malte Amundsen — committed 13 fouls on the night but conceded no yellow cards, per MLS match records. Los Angeles finished with just one corner kick compared to Columbus’s four.
The victory is Columbus’s second win in their last three home fixtures at Lower.com Field in 2026. The Crew return to action Sunday, April 26, hosting the Philadelphia Union in a match
