What Happened

Columbus police officers responded to the 100 block of North Burgess Avenue in the Hilltop at about 7:40 p.m. Tuesday, according to a police dispatcher. They found Ryan Ward, 27, with multiple gunshot wounds. Medics took him to a hospital, where he died at 8:16 p.m.

A 911 caller reported hearing gunshots and seeing a gray Honda drive away after an altercation between Ward and David Estrada, 22, police said. According to an affidavit, a person at the home told police that Estrada called Ward and asked him to come outside.

Estrada did not stop for officers, and a chase followed. It ended on U.S. 33 in Fairfield County, southeast of Lancaster, where police arrested him.

Police charged Estrada with murder Tuesday. A judge set his bond at $5 million Thursday.
