Ted Ginn Jr. Arrested for DWI in Texas Night Before Aviators Game, Then Publicly Apologized

COLUMBUS, Ohio, Ted Ginn Jr., head coach of the Columbus Aviators and a former Ohio State Buckeyes football standout, was arrested early Saturday in Texas on a driving while intoxicated charge — hours before his team was scheduled to play the Dallas Renegades.

According to the Tarrant County Sheriff’s Office, Ginn was stopped by a Euless Police Department officer near 100 W. Euless Blvd. around 12:58 a.m. Saturday after making a wide right turn and failing to yield.

Police administered a field sobriety test, and Ginn was later booked into the county jail at approximately 3:30 p.m. Saturday. He was released after posting a $1,000 bond.

League Responds

Russ Brandon, president and CEO of the United Football League, said the league is reviewing the situation.

“We are aware of an incident involving Head Coach Ted Ginn Jr. over the weekend and are in the process of gathering more information,” Brandon said in a statement. “Offensive Coordinator Todd Haley will handle the head coaching duties for the Aviators game on Sunday.”

Ginn Issues Public Apology

Ginn addressed the arrest Sunday, taking responsibility in a public statement.

“I made a serious mistake and take full responsibility for my actions,” Ginn said. “I’ve always believed in accountability and now it’s my turn to live that standard… I’m committed to learning from this, making better decisions, and earning back the trust of my players, our organization, and the fans.”

A Columbus Football Icon

Ginn remains one of the most recognizable football figures to come out of Columbus. During his time with the Buckeyes from 2004 to 2006, he helped lead Ohio State to the BCS National Championship Game.

He was selected ninth overall by the Miami Dolphins in the 2007 NFL Draft and went on to play 14 seasons in the NFL.

In December 2025, Ginn was named the first head coach of the Columbus Aviators, a move that generated significant excitement in central Ohio as the franchise launched its inaugural season.

The Aviators entered Sunday’s game with an 0–2 record.

Sunday also marked Ginn’s 41st birthday.
