Ohio State moved up two spots to No. 5 in the AP Top 25 on Sunday, Sept. 27, after a 42-19 Big Ten opener win over Illinois in Columbus. The Buckeyes entered the weekend ranked seventh.
Wide receiver Jeremiah Smith tied the school’s single-game record with four touchdown catches and set career highs with 12 receptions for 217 yards. No Ohio State player had ever combined 10-plus catches, 200-plus yards and four touchdowns in one game.
Texas, Georgia, Notre Dame and Miami (Fla.) sit ahead of Ohio State. In the Coaches Poll, the Buckeyes rose one spot to No. 6. Michigan dropped out of the AP Top 25 after losing to Iowa by one point with two seconds left.
Ohio State plays No. 14 Iowa next Saturday, Oct. 3, in Iowa City. The game kicks off at 3:30 p.m. on CBS, and ESPN’s College GameDay will be there.
